Norman is a master swordsman and the guardian of Mighty Max. An ancient warrior, he has gone by several names including Hercules, Sir Lancelot, and Little John.

Biography[]

Toyline[]

Norman appeared in sets such as Dragon Island and Mighty Max Assaults Skull Master. His backstory is detailed in the Battle Warrior set Mighty Max Defeats Battle Conqueror, where it was revealed that he is destined to fight the Conqueror every century. Max was eager to join in the battle, but Norman refused as his fate is to fight the Conqueror alone. The Conqueror gets the upper hand in the battle, so Max disobeys Norman and rides in on his C.A.T. pursuit pod. A blast from the pod disorients the Conqueror, allowing Norman to kill the leonine beast. When asked if he killed him, Norman told Max that the Conqueror is immortal and will return.

Norman later accompanied Max and Virgil as they sailed towards Dragon Island to confront Skull Master. Norman and Max were quickly captured by Skull Master's henchmen, the Zilard Warriors. Virgil managed to escape, and later rescued the pair from captivity. While Max and Virgil destroyed Skull Master's technology enslaving the Zilards, Norman fought the beasts. He and Virgil then retreated to their dinghy while Max took down Skull Master's dragon, the Necrosaur. Max regrouped with his allies and revealed that he had taken Skull Master's Skull Emblem, the source of his power.

Animated Series[]

In the time of the early Vikings, a young Norman watched his father die at the hands of Spike, an indestructible, deranged and bloodthirsty warrior. Because of his size at the time, Norman couldn't help when he had the chance (he was unable to lift his father's war-axe), and thus blamed himself for the tragedy; at his father's grave, he vowed to become the greatest warrior that ever lived (cf. "Norman's Conquest"). After a lifetime of battle, Norman was approached by Virgil to become the guardian. He earned his immortality through unknown means, and swore to defend the Mighty One with his life if necessary. As the Mighty One's bodyguard, Norman is usually serious but unlike Virgil, he seems to enjoy Max's carefree ways. Norman's exploits through the ages were the basis of numerous legends, including Thor, Hercules, Samson, Lancelot, and Little John, presumably among others. Norman is shown throughout the series to be practically impervious to fear, though he is not above disgust. The only creatures which give him pause for terror are spiders, with Norman encountering several of tremendous size and strength. It is in hinted in the final episode he may have finally met his match in combat and died at the eight hands of an enormous spider.

Comic Book Series[]

Norman appeared regularly in The Adventures of Mighty Max.
